Mission Basilica San Diego
Founded in 1769 by Father Junipero Serra, San Diego de Alcala was the first of a chain of 21 missions stretching 600 miles north to San Francisco. Today's basilica is the fifth church built at the site. The adjacent campanario, or bell wall, contains one of the mission's original bells dating to 1802.
